Obituary for William H. Coller

William H. Coller age 96 of Lapeer passed away November 4, 2011. He was born June 11, 1915, in Sanilac County, where he grew up on a dairy farm and was an outstanding dairy cattle showman at many local and state fairs. Bill started a successful tire capping business during WWII in Davison and moved his business to Lapeer in 1942. He ended his business career in Lapeer with Bill Coller’s Sporting Goods. He was an active member with many local charitable organizations. Bill was a life member and past president of Lapeer Kiwanis and helped to start the Davison Kiwanis Club. He was a life-time faithful and active member of the Masonic Lodge #54, Odd Fellows Lodge #94, Jaycees and Rebekahs. He was also the co-founder of the Lapeer Center Building and was currently active in many leadership and fund raising responsibilities. Bill is survived by his sons Dale (Betty) Coller, Dan Coller; daughters Darlene (Mike) Darby, Dawn Coller Rogers; companion Irene Zahnow; sister Juanita Martin; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Ruth Coller (Dorland); sister Wilma Craig; brothers Jack Coller, James Coller, and Richard Coller; granddaughter Colleen Darby McIntosh.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Arnold Bracy will be officiating. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons on Wednesday from 5-8 PM with a 7:30 PM Masonic Service and Thursday 2-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Odd Fellows Rebekah Youth Camp are greatly appreciated.
