Obituary for Ward William Newton

Ward William Newton age 86 of Lapeer passed away October 15, 2011 after an extended illness. He was born in Lapeer on October 12, 1925 to the late Ralph and Zada Newton. Ward spent many of his earlier years in Ortonville where he worked at Crosman Funeral Home. He then returned to Lapeer where he owned and operated the Shell gas station at the corner of Calhoun and Nepessing Street. Ward later purchased Baird Funeral Home in Downtown Lapeer across the street from his gas station. He was a devoted funeral director who operated Baird Newton Funeral Home for 35 years. Ward and his wife Joyce resided in Columbiaville. During his retirement he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, traveling and spending the winter months in Florida.
Ward is survived by his loving wife Joyce of 37 years; daughters Kay (Ronald) Wilmers, Debbie (Roger) Hogan, Judy (Bryce) Geeck; son Paul (Cindy) Schaffer; grandchildren Roger (Kim) Wilmers, Daniel (Kelli) Wilmers, Mark (Renee) Wilmers, Timothy (Holly) Hogan, Amie (Eric) Planck, Anthony (Christina) Hogan, Brian (Michelle) Duford, Debbie (Richard) Pugh, Kirk Duford, Wendy (Fred) Hamilton, Nathan (Suzanne) Schaffer, Ali (Brian) Fisk; 18 great grandchildren and Brother-in-law Donald Wills.
Friends may visit Monday, October 17, 2011 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and Tuesday 12:00-9:00 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, MI 48446. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Bracy officiating. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to: A-One Hospice, 1040 S. State Rd, Davison, MI 48423 or the Alzheimer's Association.
