Obituary for Virginia J. Jubelt

Virginia Jubelt, 90, of Lapeer, passed away June 12, 2012 at Suncrest. She was born July 11, 1921 in Royal Oak, MI. In her words, “My parents had no car, so we rode the street car to Church. I was taught to pray as soon as I could walk.”
She enjoyed tending to her flower beds, her church and traveling. She entered local politics in 1976, becoming the first women elected to the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners and serving from 1977 to 1978. Her district consisted of Arcadia Twp. and her main concern was the senior citizens. She was a member of the Lapeer County Commission on Aging, where she continued to work until 1986. She was instrumental, along with fellow commissioner Earl Gass and Mayor Richard Blonde of Imlay City in the development of a partnership between Imlay City, LBC and Lapeer Hospital, which led to the of the Lamb Steele Senior Center in Imlay City. She retired to Texas in 1988, where she enjoyed sightseeing, scooter jaunts and landscaping. She returned to MI in 2000 to see the lilacs and iris bloom and the seasons change. Virginia was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Lapeer. She is survived by son Daniel (Jill) of Madison, GA. Preceded in death by her parents, William and Clare Hindman; brother Bill. “Thank you to the kind and caring staff at Suncrest and for their many smiles, kindness and words of encouragement. Thank you to Michelle, Shondra, Falon, and Anita.”
A memorial service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer on June 28, 2012 at 11 AM. Deacon David Vandenberghe will be officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow. Interment will take place at Arciadia Twp. Cemetery Wednesday, June, 20 at 1 PM.
