Obituary for Thomas Melvin Ostrander

Thomas Melvin Ostrander, a lifelong resident of Lapeer, passed away at the age of 82 on December 29, 2008. Thomas joined the Lapeer Public safety Department as a reserve officer. He later assumed a full time position in 1964. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1974 and retired from that position in 1988. Sgt. Ostrander was given a special tribute by then Governor of MI, James J. Blanchard, State Senators and representatives upon his retirement. Sgt. Ostrander participated with a host of civic and professional groups, including the Elks, Optimists, Lapeer Co. Law Enforcement Association and the Saginaw Valley Law Enforcement Association. He is preceded in death by his wife Doris; parents, William and Bessie; brothers, William Jr. and Gerald; sister, Edith King. He leaves behind his son, Donald of North Carolina; nephew, Roger of Davison, MI; sister, Evelynn Bax of California; as well as various nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2008, 11:00 AM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Downtown Lapeer. Rev. Donald Ostrander will be officiating. Interment Stiles Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday, January 2, 2008 from 5-9 PM. Memorials to Heartland Hospice are greatly appreciated.
