Obituary for Richard V. Ceuninck

Richard V. Ceuninck, 87, a longtime resident of Metamora, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021, in the comforts of his home and with his family by his side.

Richard was born in Detroit, MI to Joseph and Yvonne. He attended Harper Woods High School where he played football and baseball. Richard joined the United States Navy and loyally served his country during the Korean War. He returned home from the war and married his high school sweetheart Dorothy on July 30, 1955. Together they enjoyed traveling. In 1980 they purchased a cabin on Merritt Lake in Metamora that would eventually become their permanent residence and their home to this day.

Richard was a man of strong Christian faith and integrity. He was hardworking and a provider for his family. Richard enjoyed woodworking and cherished his time spent with his grandchildren working on various project. He will be deeply missed by many.

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Ceuninck; son Richard (Lisa) Ceuninck; daughter Pamela (John) Zackzewski; son Douglas Ceuninck; grandchildren James (Theresa) Ceuninck, Joshua (Lisa) Ceuninck, Lauren (Bryce) Jenkins, Justin (Sierra) Zackzewski, Caitlyn (Austin) Schmidt; great-grandchildren Dylen C. Zackzewski, Edie Ceuninck, Maison Ceuninck, Julius Schmidt, Lukus Schmidt, Eli Ceuninck, Boden Jenkins, Markus Schmidt, and Dylen J. Zackzewski.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Yvonne Ceuninck; grandson Jacob Zackzewski; sister Marjorie DeWitte.

Friends may visit from on Saturday, February 27th from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 12:00 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. COVID restrictions will be implemented. Chaplain Rod Sanderson-Smith will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow and will be held at the American Legion Post #16 in Lapeer. Memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are appreciated.
