Obituary for Philip David Eberle

Philip David Eberle “Dave”, 75 years of age, departed this life on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was at his home, surrounded by his devoted family after a long fight against cancer.

He was born in Detroit on January 10, 1942, to Joseph & Mary Eberle at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital, third window from the cross.

By trade he was a tool and die maker, by nature he was a free spirit and continued freelancing for Elliot Management for several years. Then to Machus Restaurants in Birmingham maintaining equipment. During that time he commuted from the suburbs to Hadley where he built the family home. After completing heating and refrigeration studies at Votech and being skilled in all building trades, he began work for Porter & Heckman Heating & Cooling in Lapeer. He loved traveling the farmlands and quaint hamlets of the countryside and knew all the roads and cow paths way before GPS was available. Bob and Lu Myers regarded him as “The World’s Best Handyman” his jobs were numerous, challenging and innovative. He continued his career in the printing industry in repair and maintenance at the County Press, Webco Press and finally Michigan Web Press in Davisburg, plying his skill with state of the art equipment. He never got the chance to officially retire due to the seriousness of his illness. He loved and was loved by his co-workers, who looked to him for advice and knew he would be there to perform his Macgyver magic on any problem that arose.

Dave was active with the Christmas Is For Kids auction, that ensured that no child in Lapeer County would go without toys at Christmas. It was originated by his best friend, Paul Wegrzyn. He enjoyed all competitive sports and participating in the local dart league, pool tournaments, and golf. His passion was for anything powered by gasoline, building a three wheeled motorcycle with a Corvette engine in the early 70’s. He restored and drove antique cars, and rehabilitated one of the oldest buildings in the Village of Metamora, where he remained until his passing with his devoted wife of 47 years, Kathleen Eberle. In mourning are his children, Joseph (Toni Greenberg) Eberle of Gaylord, Denise (Robert) Huey of Grand Rapids, Marci (Matt) Waldrop of Waterford, Kim Watts of Keego Harbor; his grandchildren, Daniel Eberle, Aleesha Medbury, Leeann Huey, Bobby Huey, Matt Greenberg, Kathleen Watts, Kristina Watts, Max Watts and newborn baby Marley Wynter Waldrup; great grandchildren, Bryson Eberle, Jaxon Medbury; brother, Richard Eberle of Romeo and many dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, four sisters, three nieces and two nephews.
