Obituary for Martin Lareau States

Martin Lareau States, age 89 of Lapeer passed away May 8, 2015. He was born in Detroit on January 16, 1926, the son of Martin VanBuren States and Agnes Lareau States. He is survived by his three children, Marty V. (Dawn) States, Corinne (Kevin) States-Broecker and Don (Teresa) States; his six grandchildren, Marty L. States II, Melanie (Michael) Heavey, Maria C. Broecker, Brandon R. (Kristen) States, Donny States and Anthony States; his five great grandchildren, Mairin Heavey, Michael Heavey, Zakiah Toole, Killian States and Abigail States.

Martin was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Elizabeth States in 1990; brother George V. States; grandson Matthew H. States.

Martin was a graduate of MacKenzie High School in Detroit. He then joined the United States Army Air Corps and loyally served his country during WWII. Upon returning from the war he attended Wayne State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He married Margaret Elizabeth Howell on July 8, 1949. Martin was a devoted 32nd degree Mason and Past Worshipful Master of the Free and Accepted Masons Lapeer Lodge #54, Consistory Member of Bay City and member of the Flint Area Shriners. He later retired from Plant Protection at Fisher Body Division - Coldwater Road Plant in 1992. Martin was also a member of the American Legion, Lapeer Post #16 for 39 yrs. Martin was a loving and generous father and grandfather, and considered to be a perfect gentleman by all that knew him.

A funeral service commemorating Martin's life will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Masonic Service and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service a burial with military honors by the Auspices of American Legion Lapeer Post #16 will take place at Oregon Township Cemetery. Memorial donations to: American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association are greatly appreciated.
