Obituary for Martin Douglas Welch

In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death. - Proverbs 12:28

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. - 2 Corinthians 5:8

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. - 1 Corinthians 2:9

Martin Douglas Welch, 87, of Lapeer, MI passed away peacefully at his home in Lapeer, Michigan on April 4, 2020. "Marty" was born to parents Donald and Evelyn Welch on October 10th, 1932 in Detroit, MI. Marty graduated from Holy Redeemer High School where he was president of his class. After graduation he attended University of Detroit for a year before completing his apprenticeship as a Wood Model Maker. He worked at GM for many years before he opened his own business. He later returned to GM until he retired. Marty had a very difficult job at GM, no one could touch his work. He was known as the best of the best.

Marty was married to his loving wife, Patricia, who preceded him in death in 1994. His wife Patricia was his best friend, his helper, his traveling companion, his supporter, his beloved. And he was hers. They traveled the world together, raised loving children together, were loving grandparents and played intimate roles in their families lives. He was also preceded in death by his brother Donald.

He is survived by his brother Gerald (who says his brother Marty was the best looking and most intelligent of the brothers), his daughter, Patricia, and sons, Kevin and wife, Barbara, Matthew and wife, Jane, and Gregg. His grandchildren are Melanie, Nathanael, Daniel, Samuel, Gabriel, Grace, Hannah, Matthew, Mark, Rebecca, Sarah, Luke, James, John, and Charity. His great grandchildren are Makarah, Boden, Carrick, Christian, Dixie Joy, Derrick, Ariana, Adelaide and Augusta; brother-in-law Robert Thomas Fitzstephns.

Marty was lovingly cared for in his last days by his son Kevin, his wife Barbara and their children.
He was a man with a tender heart, he was devoted, adventurous, smart, creative, thoughtful, generous, loyal and many other things to the people he loved. Although he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed, he is home with the Lord now and at peace.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 8th at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lapeer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in memory of Martin.
