Obituary for Leon J. Lawcock

Leon J. Lawcock, originally of Flint, Michigan, age 96 passed away May 1, 2020, in Lapeer, Michigan from complications of COVID-19 and other ailments. Leon was born June 2, 1923, to Leon M. Lawcock and Jesse Ragsdale Lawcock.

Leon served as a Boy Scout Leader while a senior in high school, attended college briefly before joining the Army/Air Force during WWII where he trained to be a navigator. Following the war he married his love of 62 years, Elaine Georgia Decker and they had 4 children. He worked for the Flint Journal for many years before opening his print shop in 1955 in his garage. When the business grew, he and Elaine opened Superior Printing on Clio Road in Flint, Michigan.

Later at the advice of a friend and her help they opened the office supply and became Superior Printing and Office Supply. As they grew older Leon quit doing the actual printing and they moved the wedding side of the business to Flushing where they became Superior Weddings and Parties. After being in business for over 50 years they finally retired. He was in his early 80's by this time.

In his younger days, he and Elaine loved to snow and water ski. For their honeymoon they went to Colorado to go snow skiing. Elaine referred to it as their honeymoon, Leon as "the ski trip."

From there they moved to Fenton to live on a lake where they lived for many years before downsizing and moving to their home of over 20 years off Torrey Road in Flint. Leon and Elaine loved to travel and took advantage of two daughters working for the airlines. They traveled to Europe and Hawaii numerous times as well as Texas, Virginia and Georgia for long visits with their daughters and their families. They went several times to Germany to visit their former exchange student who was like a daughter, Monika Hey and her family and to attend her wedding.

When not flying they loved driving cross country in their travel trailer and later motor home. Following Elaine's death in June, 2015, Leon moved to Lockwood of Burton Apartments where he resided for almost 5 years before moving to The Villages of Lapeer. While living at Lockwood, Leon continued to travel to visit his daughters in Texas and Georgia. Leon was well loved and known for his generosity. He was a firm believer in the golden rule and tried to live his life accordingly. In his younger years he was a member of the Masons and the Rotary Club. He was a member at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church until the church dissolved and later attended Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio, Michigan.

He leaves behind one brother, Rex Lawcock, of Grose Isle, Michigan, daughter Kathy Brewer of Lapeer, Michigan, Sheryl Jackman (Calvin) of Canton, Georgia; Susan Marschel (Dean) of Spring, Texas and son Leon Lawcock (Lisa) of Delaware, Ohio, 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Due to the coronavirus, Leon's funeral and memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors-Capstick Chapel, Lapeer, Michigan
