Obituary for Leo Eugene Houck

Leo Eugene Houck, 85, of Lapeer, quietly passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016. He was born December 22, 1930 in North Branch, Michigan to Pearl M. (McConnell) and Sylvester A. Houck. CPL Leo Houck faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. One month after his return in 1953 he married Margaret Jane Reynolds. She preceded him in death in September 2003; just 2 months shy of their 50th wedding Anniversary.

Leo was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer, a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 1987 and a longtime member of the American Legion, Lapeer Post #16. Leo was a retired member of UAW 659 after over 30 years working for Buick Automotive. His retirement years may have surpassed his years of labor at Buick yet he never ceased working, often helping others.

Leo is the beloved father of Susan (Dave) Harris of Flint, Thomas (Lisa) Houck of Bloomfield Hills, Donald Houck of Lapeer and Kenneth Houck of Sterling Heights. He holds a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren as a loving grandfather to Sue’s children Shawn, Christina and Christopher; Tom’s children Stephanie, Megan and, Gabrielle and Ken’s children Jacob, Eliza, Emily and Joseph. He was also the proud great grandfather of Shawn’s daughter Andrea Jacqueline. Leo is also survived by his dear friend Bonnie Johnson of Minnesota and several nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as Uncle Gene. He was well loved. Strangers, especially medical staff, time and again, often referred to him as “adorable”.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester and Pearl; three brothers: Charles S., Albert J., and William “Bud” Houck; five sisters: Margaret Hudson, Rita L. Smith, Mary A. Ludwig, Helen” Ruth” Robin, and Betty L. Swan.

Friends may visit on Monday, December 26th from 4-8 PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, December 27th at 11 AM (in-state at 10 AM). Interment following at Mt. Loretto Cemetery.
