Obituary for Lawrence Ray Edwards
Lawrence Ray Edwards, age 85, a lifetime resident of Lapeer County, went to be with his Lord and savior on April 27, 2019, surrounded by his loving family and in the comforts of his home. He was born in Leonard, MI on February 17, 1934, to Orville & Leona Edwards and was raised on the family farm in Attica, MI. He loyally served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Lawrence was a skilled auto mechanic who loved the thrill of drag racing Harley Davidson's at the Detroit International Speedway and the Ubly Dragway. In 1963 he began a career with General Motors, working as a Semi truck mechanic and later retired as a Quality Control Inspector after 30+ years. After retirement, he and Beverly were the owners & operators of Michigan Business Products office equipment store in Imlay City, MI.
Lawrence had a strong faith in the Lord and rarely missed a Sunday Worship. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, motorcycles, and bargain shopping, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He will be deeply missed by many.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of of 49 years, Beverly Edwards; son Kelly (Kathryn) Hays; daughter LaTiscia (Donnie) Lackey; daughter Tanya Hollingsworth; grandchildren Melinda Powers, Amy Holmes, Anna Lackey, Louis Hollingsworth, Hailey Lackey, Tèa Lackey, Larissa Hollingsworth, and Logan Hollingsworth; great grandchildren Mady, Lexie, William and Mila; sister-in-law Lila Flanagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orville & Leona Edwards; brother Bill Edwards.
Friends may visit with the Edwards family on Wednesday, May 1st from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors- Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Lapeer Assembly of God East. Pastor Donnie Lackey will officiate. Military honors by the Auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Edwards family are appreciated.
