Obituary for Jr. John Walter Burgess

John Walter Burgess Jr. age 64 of Attica passed away unexpectedly February 27, 2009. He was born January 3, 1945 to John and Edith Burgess of Farmington, Missouri. John spent much of his youth in the Pontiac, MI area. He attended Pontiac Central High School where he first met his wife Lavonne Burgess of 43 years. After High School he loyally served his country as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. After returning from active duty he married Lavonne and began a career in the automotive field as a Mechanical Engineer. John had an astounding understanding of old cars and soon developed a passion for collecting them. He would continue working within his trade up until his death. John was extremely devoted to his family and his friends in the Lapeer, Oakland and Macomb County areas. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John spent the last 38 years in Attica, first in the old Payne farm on Payne Road, where his children and many others were raised. The last eighteen years he and Lavonne have lived in the old Attica Town Hall which had formerly housed his business, Attica Engineering Inc. John is survived by his wife, Lavonne Burgess of Attica; son, Joe (Fawn) Burgess; daughters, Tawni Burgess, Angie Burgess; grandchildren, Neil, Nick, Cole, Zeno, Skylar, Seth, Gabriel and Sam; mother, Edith Burgess; brothers, Jerry (Sharon) Burgess, Bud (Dorthey) Burgess; sisters, Betty (Malcolm) Paul, Marla (Jim) Walker; His father and mother-in-law; also many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his father, John Walter Burgess Sr. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 11:00 AM from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Downtown Lapeer, MI 48446. Friends may visit Monday, March 2, 2009 from 4:00 – 9:00 PM.
