Obituary for Jonathan Swartzendruber

Our Beloved Family Member,

Jonathan Mark Swartzendruber was ushered into the gates of heaven on April 8, 2019 in the comfort of his home with his family at his bedside. Jonathan, the firstborn son of Bernie and Debbie (Byers) Swartzendruber, was born on July 9, 1985. He attended Calvary Christian School, Lamphere Center, and Lapeer County Education and Tech Center. He was employed with Teamwork, a work program through CMH, and also with his father’s company, B & D Builders.
Jonathan is survived by his parents, Bernie and Debbie Swartzendruber, his brothers William and James, his sister Elizabeth, his nephew Sebastian, his grandparents Dwayne and Berdetta Byers, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, David and Joshua, his grandparents, Stanley and Edna Swartzendruber, and two cousins, Ryan Hochstedler and Liliana Passmore.

His passion for people was priceless, and his love for others touched and inspired countless lives. He treasured the opportunity to sing and worship the Lord while playing his tambourine with impeccable timing. Anyone who knew him, expected wholehearted greetings and knew to be prepared to answer who preached on Sunday, who led worship, and who played the piano. His exuberant, cheerful attitude was inspirational to so many, and he brightened any room with his smile. He enthusiastically and tirelessly preached countless sermons about God‘s power and love.

He traveled to Botswana, Africa twice, visiting his grandparents on the mission field. He assisted on multiple construction projects and joyfully joined the maintenance team. He embraced people wherever he went, and is loved and remembered in Botswana to this day.

Our family has 33 years of funny stories, most parents only get for a short time. Jonathan was in a sense, an eternal child. Not only did he have a tendency to say freely, and loudly what everyone else was thinking, he was also a natural entertainer.

As we mourn our loss, we are celebrating the gift of Jonathan’s life and his incredible testimony. He is now enjoying singing and worshipping his Lord and Savior for eternity, where there is no more night and no more sadness!
