Obituary for John Christie "J.C." McEvoy
John Christie (J.C.) McEvoy, 87 of Lapeer, passed away February 11, 2019. He was born on November 19, 1931 to George T. McEvoy, and Gertrude (Kenny) McEvoy in Detroit, MI. J. C. Graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1949. He became a proud member of the United States Air force and served during the Korean War. Following his military service he enrolled in Wayne State University where he achieved a degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation he began a successful career first at Burroughs, in Detroit, and later at Diamond Automation in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he became the vice president of engineering.
He married the love of his life, Rita Marie McEvoy on June18, 1960. Together they raised four children, first in Livonia MI. and then in Canton MI from 1970 to 2011. J.C. was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He shared his enthusiasm with his children by being involved in Little League, and coaching basketball. He was an ardent fan of Michigan sports .
J.C. was also known for his deep love and respect of nature which was reflected in his beautiful gardens and landscapes, spending countless hours perfecting them. He loved life, loved to laugh, and believed in making the most of every single day. He will be greatly missed.
J.C. was a cherished father to Brian (Renee) McEvoy, Chris (Jill) McEvoy, Dennis (Kristen) McEvoy, Sheila (Brian) Ciesil. Proud grandfather of Morgan, Michael, Austin, Kyle, Samantha (Max), Alex, Madison, Dustin, Flannery McEvoy, Cameron, Connor, Mikayla Ciesil; sister Elaine (Greg) Giglio.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita Mary McEvoy, his parents, George T. McEvoy, and Gertrude (Kenny) McEvoy, and his sisters, Helen Drews, and Patricia Bettelon.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N Lapeer Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48362. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Fr. Mike Verschaeve will be officiating. Memorial donations to Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
