Obituary for Jason Thomas Younk

Jason Thomas Younk, age 45, of Detroit, passed into the arms of the Lord at his home on December 5, 2019 after a very long period of declining health. Jason was born on November 20, 1974 in Rochester Michigan to parents Tom and Karen (Blackwell) Younk. He spent his childhood in Troy and Lake Orion and graduated from Troy Athens High school in 1993.

Jason was very outgoing and loved to talk with anyone who would do so. As a child he smiled and waved to people in the store, along the sidewalk, while in the yard, and loved talking on the phone to anyone he could call! Those things never changed. He was also generous with his time and resources to neighbors, friends, and strangers. Sometimes so much so it was detrimental to his finances. He was stubborn, didn’t mind an argument and could be downright exasperating. His Doctors found that out quickly when he was dealing with kidney failure. He managed to live with the condition over 15 years despite being non compliant for years. He was tough and did not give up but rather just did things his way. This behavior was not fun for his family and friends who worried about him.

Jason enjoyed being with people. He loved his family very much. He had many years of fun at his Grandparent’s cottage on the lake with lots of family around. He enjoyed trips to Arizona with Mom and Grandma & Grandpa, Disney world with family, trips up North to the family cabin, mushroom picking, walking in the woods and deer looking. Holidays with extended family, birthdays, and any reason to get together. Trips to Caribou Lake with his Dad and Sue, and Younk family reunions in Summer. He enjoyed living in the country with chickens and horses and freedom to roam several acres on his bike or walking to the barn to see and feed the horses. He liked going out to eat, and actually just loved to eat! He liked the casino but was very careful not to lose too much. He liked to tinker with computers, fixing them and using them. His life was not long enough and it was hard in his adult years, but he always made the best of what he had to deal with. His daily phone calls will be missed, long talks about anything and everything will be remembered with a smile and a tear. He was intelligent and could discuss just about any topic.

Jason is survived by his Mom and step Dad, Karen and Jim Gregory, step Mother Susan Younk Kidd (Tim), Aunts, Uncles and cousins on both sides of his family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Tom Younk, grandparents Ralph and Norene Blackwell, Bill and Helvi Younk, several aunts and uncles and a few friends.

Many thanks to his Doctors at St. John Providence hospital who saved him many times when he arrived at the ER in dire need. Dr Goyle and Dr. Shukla did their best for him, as did many other doctors and the nursing staff. Thanks to his neighbors and friends at his apartment building who helped him out when he was in need, driving him to the store, cooking for him when he was too sick, and keeping an eye on him. Neal and Dawn, Bob, Brian, and Theresa were the ones who called Mom when he was found passed away.

Jason is now free from all of his pain, sickness and troubles, and with those who crossed over before him.
He said many times, ‘if I die it will be over and no more suffering’. Dance with the angels son, have fun with your family there. This Christmas will be sad without you, but you will spend it with our Lord Jesus, and our Heavenly Father. I will Love you forever, and miss you, til we meet again! Ma XOXO

In keeping with Jason’s wishes there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a donation in Jason’s memory may do so to Leader Dogs for the blind 1039 South Rochester Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307 or The Salvation Army.
