Obituary for James Peter Clasper

James Clasper, 84, of Lapeer, died Saturday, October 4, 2014. Lovingly known as "Jim" by his friends and family, he was born November 25, 1929 in Pontiac to parents Peter and Clara (Horsley) Clasper. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Michigan State University and taught biology at Kearsley High School, before joining General Motors, from which he retired. He sang in the choir and was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lapeer for more than 50 years. Jim was a serial entrepreneur and for many decades managed Clasper Garden and Nursery and surrounded his family with fields of mums. He loved his family and his many dogs and cats. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Donna, and his sister, Eunice Coates of Morgan Hill, CA, along with five of his six children: Nan (Rick) Zemmer of Metamora, Paul Clasper of Fenton, Sue (Ray) Elliott of Lapeer, Pat (fiancé, Steve Wilson) Bernard of Swartz Creek, and Pam (Chris) Hall of Lapeer, and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his oldest child, Debora Williams.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 7, from 4-8 pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, MI 48446. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 11 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lapeer, 1310 N. Main St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Grant Lobb will be officiating. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lapeer.
