He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 31, 1927, to John Connon and Elizabeth Grieve. After attending Cooley High School, he joined the Navy in 1944 and served his country in the South Pacific until the end of World War II.

Upon returning to Detroit, James completed his GED and met the love of his life, Dianne Ione Rivard. They were married on September 5, 1948.

He began work at Consumers Power Company and then focused his heating and cooling expertise at several private companies. He retired to Florida but always maintained his roots were in Michigan. He returned to Michigan in 2010 and enjoyed life with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid reader and could finish off a book in a few days. He enjoyed playing euchre and poker with his friends at the Lapeer Senior Center, ushering at The Pix, and working on many wood-working projects.

He was a loving father and grandfather who was always there when anyone needed him. He is survived by his children Christine (Dennis) Perry, John (Beverly) Connon, Kevin (Wendy) Connon, and James (Robin) Connon; grandchildren Al (Melissa) Perry, Todd (Maggie) Perry, Dianne (Jason) Perry-Smith, Rachel Connon and fiancé George Cummings, Molly Connon, Tarrah (Chad) Watson, Emma Divian, Zak (Victoria) Divian, and Tim Connon. He adored his great-grandchildren Nicholas, Aiden, Preston, Brendyn, Connor, Celia, Declan, Elise, and Annabelle.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth, sisters Betty and Isabelle, his wife Dianne, and daughter Heather Divian.

The Connon family will be receiving friends on Friday, August 11th from 3-8 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 honor guard.
