Obituary for Emil Joseph De Meyere

Emil Joseph DeMeyere, 90, entered into God’s rest peacefully on February 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving children. Fondly known as “Red” and “Pops” by many. He was an avid hunter and fisherman belonging to several deaf sportsman clubs. Emil spent many memorable days enjoying his cabin “Quiet Acres” in the U.P. with family and friends and always had a good story to tell. He worked as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 1984. He was very involved in the deaf community over the years beginning with his education at the Detroit Day School for the deaf. Emil had a strong faith in the Lord and was best known for his affectionate ways and sense of humor. He truly was a legend during his stay with us, a very hard and conscientious worker, and a “hero” to all who knew him. We will all deeply miss his endearing ways but know that we will “see him later.” Preceded in death by wife Evelyn Jane; son, James; sister, Stella Beauregard and brother Maurice Geldhof. Survived by dear sweetheart Charlotte Graf; children, Roger (Linda), Annie, Susie (Ron) Huetter and Tom (Cheryl). Loving “Gramps” to Bobby (Gina) Nowicki, Kelly (Barry) Harper from Seattle, Jamie (Michelle) Nowicki of Traverse City, Matthew Nowicki, Kim (Phil) Schick, David (Jody) of New Orleans, Michael Lorenz and Karl Huetter, Kelly and William Mackey. “Great Gramps” to Emily, Tommy, Libby, Evelyn and Amelia Nowicki; Ben, Abby and Matthew Harper; Madison, Brady and Gracie Flack. Funeral service will be held Monday 2:00 PM from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, MI 48446. Friends may visit Sunday 1-9 PM. Pastor Tom Dunseth will be officiating. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday at Glen Eden Cemetery, Livonia. Memorials to Lutheran Special Education Ministries and Heartland Hospice of Lapeer appreciated.
