Obituary for Donald Willard Vroman

Donald Willard Vroman age 90 of Lapeer passed away November 3, 2010. He was born September 24, 1920 in Flint, MI to Willard and Phoebe Vroman. He married Mary L. Lynk on May 18, 1943 at the Naval Air Base in Corpus Christi, TX. After graduating from Lapeer H.S. in 1939 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Cadet and graduated as an Ensign in the Navy. He went through training at the University of Iowa Pre-Flight, Flight training at Olathe, KS, Corpus Christi, TX, Lake City, FL. and Beaufort, SC. He served in South America and the Southwest Pacific area in WWII. Donald received the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, 5 Air Medals, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon-2stars and American Theatre Ribbon. After the war he worked for Jimmie Harris Inc. and as a Flight Instructor at the Lapeer Airport.
Donald and his wife Mary spent 26 happy years in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Mae Turner, Flossie Stephens and Hazel Tice. Survived by wife Mary of 67 years and nephews Donald Countryman of OR, Jerry Stephens of OH, Leon Turner of CA; dear friends Donald Gene and Shirley Brodt of Lapeer, the Richard Barber family of Bonita Springs, FL., Donald (Nancy) Watters of Millington, MI and many other friends.

A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park, Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Marvin Ramthun will be officiating. Military honors by the American Legion Lapeer Post #16. Friends may visit prior to service from 1-2 pm.
