Obituary for David Allan Sanders

David Allan Sanders, born May 21st, 1964 passed from this life to the next on Thursday, November 11th, at approximately 9:30pm. He took his final breathes at home and was under the loving and watchful care of his fiancé and girlfriend of 8 years, Kym Black and his father Allan Sanders. Dave was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer several months ago and he faced this diagnosis with courage and dignity – never complaining of his own discomfort – and even in the very last days of his life, was very conscientious and concerned for those around him. Guided and comforted by his faith in Jesus Christ, David, who always cut an intimidating figure and had a commanding physical presence, though physically weakened and diminished by cancer, could not have been any stronger than he was during his final months.

David attended Dryden High School and afterwards joined the Air Force. He served for 6 years with the Red Horse Division, a “civil engineering SWAT team whose mission is to move quickly to support special operations or contingency deployments worldwide”. During that time, he traveled abroad to undisclosed and sometimes potentially hostile locations serving with honor and distinction. Given his great pride in serving, one can’t help but wonder at the timing of his departure which happened to be on Veteran’s Day!

David was a loving and proud father of his two children Natasha and Chase. He was a talented carpenter / handy man who loved sharing his gifts with others – particularly family. His faith inspired him to serve in various ways, including as a youth volunteer and on a mission trip to Moscow years ago. Dave was always generous and loved the outdoors – particularly his time with Kym (and other family and friends) up north at the cabin. He will be remembered for many things, but most notably for how he cared for his mother Pati with whom he now shares joyous communion in a place impossible to describe and his father, Allan who still remains with us.

David is survived by: his daughter Natasha, who is married to her husband Trevor; his son Chase; his father, Allan Sanders; his brother, Scott and Scott’s wife Nora and children, Katie and Megan; his sister Laura and her husband Tod and children Jade and Jesi; his fiance’ Kym Black; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly.

Friends may visit with the Sanders family on Friday, November 19th from 4-8PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 20th at 11 AM at Lynch & Sons. Pastor Lisa Clark will be officiating. Military honors will be performed by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. A luncheon will immediately follow the service and will be held at Capac United Methodist Church, 14952 Imlay City Rd. Township of Mussey, MI 48014.

Memorial donations may be made to New Legacy Project "In Memory of David Sanders" 3157 Lucich Drive, Merced, CA 95348.
