Obituary for Anna Auguste Saxarra Jankowsky

Anna was born in East Prussia (Germany) on May 15, 1921 to the late Julius and Anna Wallesch Saxarra, and moved with her parents and siblings to Michigan in 1925. She married Herbert Jankowsky on November 14, 1943. Their first child, Margo, was stillborn. The couple was later blessed with four children: Herb, Eric, Gayle, and Pam. Herbert and Anna were married 34 years when Herbert died in April of 1978.

Anna’s entire life focused around the Lord Jesus, His church, and God’s children. Anna was an active member of the New Apostolic Church in the Detroit, Mt. Clemens, Houston TX, Flint and Lapeer congregations. She taught Sunday school, directed choir and played the organ. She continued to sing in the choir until she was almost 80 years old. She taught many to arrange flowers and sew. Many of us have sampled her cooking and eaten the candies that she so freely distributed.

Over the last several months, Anna’s health rapidly declined. She was moved to an adult foster care facility on Christmas Eve and passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, January 4, 2013.

Anna is survived by her son Herb (Gwen) Jankowsky, daughter Gayle (Bernie) Koerber, daughter Pam (Jim) Kratz, and daughter-in-law Elke Jankowsky; grandchildren Tony, Mike, Eric (Katy), Jim (Carey), Lana, Marc, Kathy, Rob, Herb, Ken, and Taylor; great-grandchildren Jordyn, Eric, Evan, Lizzy and Jordyn. Her son Eric passed away in 2011 and her grandson Rich (Andy) Gilbert passed away in 2005.

Anna was the last surviving sibling of the Saxarra family, preceded in death by her five sisters Marie Bock, Helene Petzer, Alfreda Shanks, Ruth Dera, and Lee (Elizabeth) Poole, two brothers Alfred (Sonny) Saxarra and Eric Saxarra, and two half-brothers Otto Saxarra and Hubert Wallesch.

A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home Capstick Chapel, 542 Liberty Park Lapeer, MI 48446. Friends may visit Saturday 2 p.m. until time of service.
